Perhaps Ms. Helfand is right. Parents enforcing rules has become a bit abnormal in today's society, and it is horrifically indefensible for parents to enact consequences for bad behavior. I had a job that had me standing on my feet all day. On the days I wore Birkenstocks, my ankles and knees were fine at the end of the day.
